I began my 2014 collecting at a beach near Haomeili (Haomei Village), Taiwan. I collected with my host in Taiwan, Dr. Chien-Hsien Kuo (National Chiayi University) and two undergraduate students from National Chiayi University, Vincent Chen and Zhao Yu Shen. We captured 2 species of clupeiforms: Thryssa setirostris, and . We also captured some silversides (Order: Atheriniformes), a mullet Encrasicholina heteroloba(Family: Mugilidae), and a sillago (Genus: Sillago), which I still need to identify to species. All of the fish we caught were very small. The largest fish was the E. heteroloba, with a length of approximately 6 cm. All of the Thryssa were shorter than 3 cm. Identifying fish at this size is very difficult so I will also analyze their DNA to confirm that my species assignments based upon morphology are correct! See my YouTube video from this collecting trip to learn more about our sampling methods!
