Biological diversity supports many ecosystem functions valued by humans such as water filtration, flood control, food production, and recreation. Accelerating losses of global biodiversity are raising concern because it impedes efforts to ensure an acceptable standard of living for current and future generations [1][2]. Therefore, it is critical that people outside the professional scientific community are scientifically literate and have a sound understanding of what biodiversity is, what it does for us, and how it is impacted by human activities.
Unfortunately, the majority of scientific research is presented in highly technical language that is not easily understood by non-specialists. This motivated me to start this blog, in which I hope to share my research in a way that is accessible to people of many different backgrounds, not just biologists.
Although the majority of the posts in my blog will focus on my research or related topics, I will also post about my experiences with the different cultures in the localities where I conduct my research. When I discuss the findings of scientific research in my blog I will cite peer-reviewed articles. These will be good resources for readers who wish to read more about certain topics. I encourage all readers to make comments and ask questions about my research or biology in general!
