Research
I am interested in the biology of fishes and factors governing the generation, distribution, and fate (persistence vs. extinction) of biological diversity with emphases on: (1) ecology and evolution in dynamic environments, (2) the causes and consequences of generalist ecological niches, and (3) spatial variation in trophic ecology, particularly ontogenetic variation in diet and resource partitioning. I frequently use phylogenetic comparative methods to test hypotheses and the clupeiform fishes (anchovies, sardines, herrings, and relatives) as a study group. This lineage contains marine and freshwater species and is the most economically important group of fishes on the planet. Visit my Google Scholar or ResearchGate pages to see my publications.
